This workshop, taught by Maria Van Dessel, a high ranking jujitsu and karate instructor, and Michelle Gay, a karate instructor and Laban Movement Analyst, combines the principles outlined in Gavin De Becker's
- The Gift of Fear: Survival Signals That Protect Us From Violence , Laban
Movement Analysis, and traditional sefl defense techniques. It is presented as
a combination of video and discussion, movement based experientials,
and practical release and run self-defense techniques.
- Learn why saying "No." is an important self-defense skill and how to say it like you mean it.
- Learn the basic social techniques employed by predators and the movement components which accompany them.
- Learn to identify and assess the risk potential of new social situations.
- Learn to utilize your natural defense skills to avoid the neccessity of dangerous physical confrontation.
- Learn to listen to the intelligence of fear and intuition.
- Learn the importance of situational context.
- Increae your self-defense skills with simple release and run techniques.
