The "Good Guy/Bad Guy" self-defense workshops E-mail
This workshop, taught by Maria Van Dessel, a high ranking jujitsu and karate instructor, and Michelle Gay, a karate instructor and Laban Movement Analyst, combines the principles outlined in Gavin De Becker's - The Gift of Fear: Survival Signals That Protect Us From Violence , Laban Movement Analysis, and traditional sefl defense techniques. It is presented as a combination of video and discussion, movement based experientials, and practical release and run self-defense techniques.
  • Learn why saying "No." is an important self-defense skill and how to say it like you mean it.
  • Learn the basic social techniques employed by predators and the movement components which accompany them.
  • Learn to identify and assess the risk potential of new social situations.
  • Learn to utilize your natural defense skills to avoid the neccessity of dangerous physical confrontation.
  • Learn to listen to the intelligence of fear and intuition.
  • Learn the importance of situational context.
  • Increae your self-defense skills with simple release and run techniques.

Class Descriptions

Batto Do

loosely translated, means the way of drawing and cutting with a sword in a single motion. This is the basic distinction between Batto Do and Kenjutsu, which are fighting techniques used after the sword is drawn.
